SL5 Elite VS St Bernards
Last Saturday the OM’s SL5 side travelled to essendon to take on the ladder leaders St Bernards - with both tems secured to play finals, the game was to be a well contested hit out with nothing but pride on the line..
Unfortunately we only had 11 players - as we had to provide an umpire - thanks to Charlie Bucco for doing that. However - suprisingly with our lack of warm up and preparation with started with the guns a blazing… Here’s a look at how the first goal was scored: Hamish back to Cumbrae, Cumbrae to Daish, Daish dashes down the wing - puts the ball into the circle where Ham was awaiting, he pulled back the trigger and bang! 1 - 0 first 25 seconds!!!!1
We scored again within the next two minutes with Daish again earning the team a short corner - which was converted to make it 2 - 0.. Boo YA!
The next 60 minutes of the game - nothing happened - there players got frustrated, we kept our cool! Oh apologies one thing did happen, Cumbrae-Stewart tried to pull a backstick undercut into the net - but unfortunately Tommy Gregsons head got in the way - of what was surely going to be goal of the year - sorry Grego - but serioulsy get out the way next time that happens!
With us only having 11 players to thier 15 - it made a huge difference towards to end - with the OM’s purely just running out of legs - and in the last 10 minutes that put 2 in the net to make the final score 2 - 2.
It was a great effort and we should be proud heading into the finals - and we now know that we can match it with the best sides in the comp!
Looking foward to a couple big weeks coming up before the finals…
Also D. Wright was very handy for us playing on the wright wing!!!
