Rd2. SL4 vs Mornington
If Round 1 was 20 minutes of poor play followed by 50 minutes of class, Round 2 was the opposite. For the first quarter of the match, OMHC were all over old foes Mornington. The toothless masses on the sidelines were silent, and it seemed only a matter of time before we’d go 1-0 up.
Then our pals in green converted the lamest short corner drag flick in living memory. The shot barely had enough power to cross the goal line, but it seemed to knock the OMs out cold.
The weakness of the goal conceded seemed to be contagious: OMs were soft on tackles, wasteful in possession, careless in turning the ball over in dangerous positions, and left Mornington players wide open in shooting positions. As the final whistle neared, rain poured down further misery on the OMs, thrashed 6-0. The scoreline was a telling symptom of a poor performance, but flattered an opposition we can surely challenge in round 11.
